Thiophanate-methyl is a substituted benzimidazole fungicide. It is highly effective and low in toxicity. This fungicide has excellent systemic properties and controls a broad spectrum of fungal diseases. It effectively combats leaf spot, sooty mold, rust, anthracnose, ring spot, and gray mold. Users can apply it through foliar spraying, seed treatment, and soil application.
Thiophanate-methyl serves as both a preventive and therapeutic fungicide. It primarily acts through systemic absorption but also exhibits some contact activity. After application, part of it converts to carbendazim on the plant surface, which provides good protection. Another part gets absorbed into the plant and converts to carbendazim as well. This conversion interferes with the formation of fungal mycelium, inhibits spore germination, and obstructs cell division, achieving effective fungicidal effects.
Hymexazol is a systemic fungicide, soil disinfectant, and plant growth regulator. It treats, absorbs, and translocates effectively. It binds with inorganic metal ions like iron and aluminum. This action inhibits spore germination and fungal mycelial growth. Hymexazol can be absorbed by plant roots and quickly moves within the plant. It reaches the stem within three hours and spreads throughout the plant within 24 hours. It metabolizes into two glycosides that enhance physiological activity. These glycosides promote plant growth, tillering, root hair increase, and root activity. Hymexazol has strong adsorption in soil and minimal mobility. It effectively prevents soil-borne diseases like damping-off and wilt caused by pathogens like Fusarium. Hymexazol also shows significant efficacy against physiological diseases in rice. It maintains antibacterial activity for two weeks. Hymexazol minimally affects other bacteria and actinomycetes in the soil. It does not significantly impact soil microbial ecology. It decomposes into low-toxicity compounds, ensuring environmental safety.
1. Strong Systemic Activity
Efficacy of Hymexazol is very strong; it is quickly absorbed by plants and effectively translocates throughout the plant, rapidly eliminating pathogens.
2. Long Residual Activity in Soil
When applied as a soil drench, Hymexazol does not degrade quickly like other fungicides. Its components bind with metal ions in the soil, enhancing its efficacy while increasing antibacterial activity. This is why it is considered an excellent soil disinfectant.
3. Promotes Root Growth
Research indicates that after absorption by plants, Hymexazol triggers reactions that promote the production of specific substances, enhancing root growth and increasing root hair density.
Thiophanate-methyl is highly effective in controlling various fungal diseases, including but not limited to the following kinds:
1. Downy Mildew: This is a common plant disease that primarily affects leaves, causing yellow and white spots, and can lead to leaf death in severe cases. Thiophanate-methyl can effectively inhibit the growth of downy mildew fungi, thereby controlling the development of the disease.
2. Anthracnose: Anthracnose is a fungal disease that affects a variety of crops, primarily manifesting as brown lesions on leaves and fruits, which can lead to plant death in severe cases. Thiophanate-methyl has a significant inhibitory effect on anthracnose fungi and can be used to control anthracnose in various crops.
3. Wilting Disease: Wilting disease is a soil-borne disease that primarily affects the roots and stems of crops, leading to plant wilting and death. Thiophanate-methyl can effectively control the occurrence and spread of wilting disease through soil treatment or irrigation application.
4. Powdery Mildew: Powdery mildew is a common leaf disease that primarily affects leaves and stems, causing a white powdery substance to cover the leaf surface. Thiophanate-methyl has a significant preventive effect against powdery mildew fungi and can be used to control powdery mildew in various crops.
5. Rust Disease: Rust disease is a typical fungal disease that primarily affects the leaves and stems of crops, causing rusty lesions on the leaves. Thiophanate-methyl has an inhibitory effect on rust fungi and can be used to control rust disease in various crops.
Hymexazol is primarily used for seed treatment, soil mixing, or irrigation. Mixing it with Furamet is more effective for seed disinfection and soil treatment. For seed treatment, dry mixing is recommended to avoid phytotoxicity from wet mixing or soaking.
To control damping-off in rice seedlings, apply 3-6 mL of 30% Hymexazol per square meter (0.9-1.8 g active ingredient) diluted in water, then spray on the seedbed or seedling box before sowing. Spray again with the same dosage before transplanting.
For controlling damping-off in sugar beets, mix 400-700 g of 70% Hymexazol wettable powder (280-490 g active ingredient) and 400-800 g of 50% thiram wettable powder (200-400 g active ingredient) with 100 kg of beet seeds.
To control wilt in watermelons, treat seeds with a 2000-fold dilution of 70% wettable powder, or spray a 4000-fold dilution during the growth period.
For controlling root rot in fruit trees, remove rotten roots from the soil, then treat with a 2000-fold dilution of 70% wettable powder for root drenching.
For damping-off in ginseng, irrigate the soil with a 2000-fold dilution of 70% wettable powder to a depth of 2-3 cm before emergence.
To control root rot and damping-off in yam, after sowing, apply 300-400 mL of 15% Hymexazol solution per acre, diluted in 60 kg of water, and spray evenly in the planting furrow before covering with soil.
