Tribenuron-Methyl is a selective systemic herbicide. It can be absorbed by the roots and leaves of weeds. The herbicide is translocated within the plant. It works by inhibiting acetolactate synthase (ALS). This affects the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids. These include leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Affected plants show necrosis at the growing points. They also lose green color in the leaf veins. This leads to severe growth inhibition and stunting. Ultimately, it results in complete plant death. Sensitive weeds stop growing immediately after herbicide absorption. They die within 1 to 3 weeks.
Metsulfuron-Methyl is a selective, systemic herbicide for wheat fields. After being absorbed by the roots and leaves of weeds, it is quickly translocated within the plant, moving both upward and downward. It rapidly inhibits the growth of plant roots and new shoot tips within a few hours, leading to plant death within 3 to 14 days. Once absorbed by wheat seedlings, metsulfuron-Methyl is converted by enzymes within the wheat plants and degrades rapidly, which gives wheat a high level of tolerance to this product. The application rate is low, and it has high solubility in water, allowing it to be adsorbed by the soil, where it degrades slowly, especially in alkaline soils.
Application of Tribenuron-Methyl
Tribenuron-Methyl is primarily used for the control of various annual broadleaf weeds, and it is particularly effective against plants such as Lepidium apetalum, Cardamine hirsuta, Myosoton aquaticum, Mercurialis annua, Chenopodium spp., and Amaranthus retroflexus.
For resistant weeds such as Lepidium apetalum and Sorghum halepense, the combination of Tribenuron-Methyl l or bensulfuron-methyl + MCPA is suitable, which has a broad spectrum of herbicidal activity and shows good control over newly emerging resistant weeds.
For highly resistant broadleaf weeds like Lepidium apetalum and Sorghum halepense, a formulation of florasulam + carfentrazone-ethyl + MCPA is recommended. For late-emerging broadleaf weeds such as Vicia villosa and Convolvulus arvensis occurring later in the year, the use of tribenuron-Methyl or a combination of florasulam + fluroxypyr is appropriate.
Application of Metsulfuron-Methyl
Metsulfuron-Methyl effectively controls various weeds, including wild oats, chickweed, field bindweed, shepherd's purse, wild mustard, bittercress, kochia, lambsquarters, smartweed, barnyard grass, and water peanut.
Metsulfuron-Methyl is characterized by its high efficiency, broad spectrum, and systemic action. The application rate is 4.5 to 7.5 grams of active ingredient per hectare, used to control various broadleaf weeds in cereal fields. It can be absorbed by both the roots and leaves, and is translocated upward and downward within the plant.
It is active against weeds such as wild oats, ryegrass, smartweed, bindweed, chickweed, shepherd's purse, poppy, wild sesame, and buckwheat. However, it is not very effective against pigweed. Increasing the dosage may cause slight yellowing and stunting of the crops, but it does not affect yield.
