Fosthiazate primarily acts by inhibiting the target harmful acetylcholinesterase, affecting the ecology of the second larval stage of nematodes. It effectively suppresses the growth and reproduction of nematodes. Fosthiazate is an organophosphorus nematicide. It mainly inhibits the synthesis of acetylcholinesterase in root-knot nematodes, blocking normal nerve transmission. This leads to excessive excitation of the nematodes' nervous system, resulting in their death.
This mechanism allows Fosthiazate to effectively control various root-knot nematodes, aphids, and other pests. Additionally, Fosthiazate has excellent contact killing properties and strong systemic activity. It can directly kill nematodes in the soil, reducing their concentration and mitigating damage. It can also be applied to the roots to control both above-ground parasitic nematodes and below-ground root nematodes. Furthermore, it has a broad-spectrum effect against above-ground pests like aphids, thrips, and mites.

First, Fosthiazate is most effective when applied to the soil. It can kill nematodes in the soil and also eliminate those that enter the root system through the root tips via systemic absorption.
Second, in fields with a high nematode population, it is advisable to combine Fosthiazate application with physical control methods such as irrigation and soil covering.
Third, Fosthiazate can be used in conjunction with abamectin. In fields with a light nematode infestation, abamectin can be used for prevention, while Fosthiazate can serve as a remedy. In fields with a heavy nematode infestation, thiazophos can be used for prevention, with abamectin as a remedy.
Finally, Fosthiazate can be mixed with chitosan or oligochitosan. Both can inhibit nematode growth and release oligosaccharins to promote nematode death, while also enhancing the crop's immune capacity to resist pests and diseases.
Using two pesticides with different mechanisms can reduce resistance and decrease the amount of pesticide needed.
