Methoxyfenozide is a non-steroidal ecdysteroid. It binds to the EcR-USP receptor to initiate molting. This process causes lepidopteran larvae to molt prematurely. The larvae cannot complete normal molting and die. This mechanism gives it high selectivity against lepidopteran pests. It is especially effective against larvae and eggs. Methoxyfenozide also has contact and ovicidal activity. It lacks penetration and phloem absorption. Its main action is through stomach toxicity. has slow efficacy but long-lasting effects. This characteristic makes methoxyfenozide effective in controlling agricultural pests. It is suitable for various crops, including cruciferous vegetables, solanaceous vegetables, melons, cotton, apples, peaches, rice, and trees. Methoxyfenozide is also safe. At normal field doses, it does not harm beneficial insects like bees and predators.
1. Unique Mechanism of Action
Methoxyfenozide is a non-steroidal ecdysteroid. It mimics the action of natural insect ecdysteroids. It prevents lepidopteran larvae from forming new cuticles and causes premature molting. This results in physiological death of the larvae. Symptoms of poisoning typically appear 4 to 16 hours after larvae contact the pesticide.
2. Broad Insecticidal Spectrum
Methoxyfenozide exhibits high selectivity against lepidopteran pests. It is effective against various lepidopteran insects, especially larvae and eggs. It effectively controls pests like beet armyworm, fall armyworm, diamondback moth, rice leaf folder, two-lined spittlebug, three-lined spittlebug, brown leaf roller, corn borer, and leaf folder.
3. Diverse Modes of Action
Methoxyfenozide has stomach toxicity and also exhibits contact and ovicidal activity. It does not have penetration or phloem absorption. Its efficacy is slow, but it has a long-lasting effect.
4. High Safety
At normal field doses, it does not harm beneficial insects like bees and predators.
