Kasugamycin is an agricultural antibiotic fungicide. It is produced from the metabolites of a type of actinomycete. In simple terms, it originates from this organism. It effectively eliminates bacteria and fungi. It exhibits strong systemic and penetrative properties. Thus, it can move thoroughly within the plant. Kasugamycin achieves its purpose of eradication when it encounters infected bacteria, fungi, and pests.
The mechanism of its fungicidal action involves disrupting the enzyme system that metabolizes amino acids in pathogens. This disruption leads to the production of abnormal proteins. As a result, it inhibits mycelial growth and causes the granulation of cells during synthesis. This process can be understood as the death of bacteria. However, it has no effect on spore-forming pathogens. It specifically targets the germination of spores.
Oxine-Copper is used in formulating antiseptics, deodorants, antiperspirants and fungicides. The biological property of copper compounds takes important role in as fungicides in agriculture and biocides in antifouling paints for ships and wood preservations. Very low level of copper is toxic to fungi and algae but the level for mammal is much higher. The copper ions inhibit the metabolism of the fungus when they react with sulfur containing enzymes in the plant. Copper compounds form a protective barrier on the plant surface and thereby prevent fungi from entering the plant host. The fungicidal effect of copper compounds as non-systemic fungicides are such as bordeaux mixture, cupric hydroxide, copper arsenate, copper carbonate, cuprous oxide, copper-8-quinolinolate, copper oleate, copper sulfate, or copper oxychloride.
application of Oxine-Copper
Non-systemic, protective fungicide. Uses Seed treatment for control of glume blotch, bunt, and snow mould of wheat; Cercospora, Phoma, and Pythium spp. in beet; Alternaria and Botrytis spp. in flax; Alternaria and Phoma spp. in oilseed rape; Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in sunflowers; and leaf spot on beans and peas; application rates range from 20-100 g/100 kg seed; also for control of leaf spot on celery; and scab and canker on pome fruit. Also used for sealing wounds and pruning cuts on trees, and for treatment of fruit- and potato-handling equipment. Phytotoxicity Non-phytotoxic when used as directed. Not to be used on copper-sensitive plants.
Features of Kasugamycin
Kasugamycin has strong systemic and penetrative properties. After spraying, the solution is quickly absorbed by plants and transported within them. It shows rapid effectiveness after application, is resistant to rain washout, and has a long residual effect. It also makes the leaves of treated melons a deep green and extends the harvest period.
However, it is important to note that Kasugamycin has weak bactericidal activity outside of the plant. Its protective effect is somewhat inferior. When using it, especially for the control of rice diseases, it is best to add adjuvants that enhance the adhesion of the solution. This can improve the absorption and utilization rate of the solution. If it rains within five hours after spraying, a reapplication is necessary.
