Product Description

Copper hydroxide is a broad-spectrum protective inorganic copper bactericide. It works by copper ions being absorbed by pathogen spores. When accumulated to a certain concentration, it coagulates proteins in the spores, killing them. Copper ions also damage specific enzymes in pathogen cells. This hinders pathogen metabolism, suppressing and killing bacteria.
 

Features of Copper Hydroxide

1. Copper hydroxide has wide applications.
It can be used on crops like cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, watermelons, tobacco, potatoes, grapes, citrus, and mangoes.
It primarily controls bacterial angular leaf spot and downy mildew in cucumbers.
In tomatoes, it treats soft rot, ulcer disease, early blight, and late blight.
It addresses white star disease, scab disease, and bacterial wilt in peppers.
For watermelons, it targets bacterial fruit blotch, anthracnose, and vine decline.
For tobacco, it treats wildfire disease, and for grapes, it tackles downy mildew and black spot diseases.
Additionally, copper hydroxide can be used for seed soaking to kill seed-borne pathogens.

2. As mentioned earlier, copper hydroxide is a multidimensional bactericide.
Thus, it is not prone to developing resistance even with continuous use.
This characteristic contributes to the lasting effectiveness of this type of bactericide.

3. Copper hydroxide is a protective bactericide.
Using it before or early in the disease onset yields immediate results.
However, it lacks systemic properties and does not cure or eradicate diseases.
To enhance preventive effects, it is best to alternate with systemic fungicides.
When used alone, maintain intervals of 7-10 days and administer at least twice based on conditions.
Using it in the late stages of disease is less effective.
If it rains after application, it may also affect the control efficacy.
 

Application

1. Spraying Method

Generally, copper hydroxide is used to control diseases, primarily during the growth period. The most common specification is a 77% wettable powder of copper hydroxide, which needs to be diluted 800-1000 times. Other specifications have different dilution concentrations, such as a 25% suspension diluted 250-300 times and a 53.8% wettable powder diluted 600-800 times, etc. These dilution conditions can typically be applied to most crops. Generally, it is sprayed 2-3 times, with an interval of about one week.

However, when spraying copper hydroxide on fruit trees, certain precautions must be taken. It should be sprayed on the branches before bud burst, similar to Bordeaux mixture. For instance, a 77% specification diluted 200-400 times can be sprayed on the branches to effectively prevent diseases.

2. Root Drenching Method

The application of copper hydroxide for root drenching mainly targets root diseases, such as root rot, soft rot, and decay disease, etc. Typically, it is applied either alone or added to irrigation water. It is usually used at the early stage of the disease, with the dosage based on one acre. For example, for a 77% copper hydroxide solution, about 2 pounds is used per acre, and it should be applied 2-3 times with an interval of half a month between applications. Usually, the disease can be effectively controlled with this method, although there may be variations in practical applications.
