Fluopyram is a multifunctional pesticide product that can be used both as a fungicide and a nematicide. It belongs to the pyridine-ethylbenzamide class of compounds. Its specific mode of action involves the inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase (Complex II), thereby blocking electron transport and affecting the respiration of pathogens and nematodes. This ultimately leads to the death of pathogens or the suppression of their growth and development.
Mechanism of Action
Fluopyram works by inhibiting the activity of succinate dehydrogenase (Complex II) in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, preventing electron transport and disrupting the respiration of pathogens and nematodes. This mechanism of action allows fluopyram to affect multiple developmental stages of pathogens and nematodes, including spore germination, germ tube elongation, and mycelial growth.
Application Range
Fluopyram has a very wide application range and can be used to control various diseases and nematodes in crops. Specific applications include:
Fungicide: It can be used to combat leaf spot diseases, gray mold, leaf blight, powdery mildew, sclerotinia, and early blight in crops such as apples, grapes, pears, bananas, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
Nematicide: It is highly effective against root-knot nematodes, stem nematodes, and other nematodes, making it particularly suitable for crops like cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelons, and tobacco.
Safety
Fluopyram has low toxicity and is considered to be safe for both humans and the environment. It requires minimal application rates, is highly active, has a long residual effect, and can remain stable in the soil to provide ongoing protection for crops against nematode infestations.
Pyrimethanil is a systemic fungicide that primarily controls diseases by inhibiting spore germination, mycelial growth, and spore formation of pathogens. It quickly penetrates plant tissues and transports active ingredients to leaves, fruits, and other parts, achieving comprehensive control of pathogens.
Pyrimethanil is highly effective against gray mold pathogens that have developed resistance to commonly used non-anilinopyrimidine fungicides. It primarily inhibits the germ tube elongation and mycelial growth of Botrytis cinerea and also exerts some inhibitory effect on spore germination within a certain application period.
Application of Pyrimethanil
1. Botrytis cinerea (Gray Mold)
Gray mold is a common disease affecting various crops, particularly severe in greenhouses and tunnels. Pyrimethanil shows significant efficacy in controlling gray mold, effectively inhibiting the growth and reproduction of the pathogen, thereby reducing the incidence and severity of the disease. In the early stages of crop infection, spraying with mefenoxam can rapidly control the spread of the disease and ensure normal crop growth.
2. Downy Mildew
Downy mildew is an important disease affecting various vegetable crops, such as cucumbers, tomatoes, and cabbages. Pyrimethanil also demonstrates good control effects against downy mildew by inhibiting the spore germination and mycelial growth of the pathogen, thereby reducing its harm to crops. Timely spraying with pyrimethanil during the initial onset of downy mildew can significantly lower the severity of the disease and improve crop yield and quality.
3. Anthracnose
Anthracnose is a common disease on various fruit trees and ornamental plants, such as apples, citrus, and roses. Pyrimethanil has a certain level of efficacy in controlling anthracnose by damaging the cell wall and membrane structure of the pathogen, rendering it incapable of growth and reproduction. Spraying with Pyrimethanil during the early stages of anthracnose can effectively reduce the damage to crops, protecting the leaves and fruits from harm.
4. Powdery Mildew
Powdery mildew is a common disease affecting various crops, such as wheat, corn, and grapes. Pyrimethanil also shows some protective effects against powdery mildew by inhibiting the spore germination and mycelial growth of the pathogen, thus reducing its occurrence and spread on crops. Timely spraying with mefenoxam in the early stages of powdery mildew can quickly control the disease's spread and minimize crop losses.
