Cypermethrin acts on the nervous system of insects by blocking sodium channels, disrupting their function. It kills insects through contact and ingestion, and it also has a feeding deterrent effect. The degradation products on treated crops also show good activity. It has a broad insecticidal spectrum and rapid efficacy. It is stable to light and heat and can kill the eggs of certain pests. Using Cypermethrin effectively controls pests resistant to organophosphates, but it is less effective against mites and blind bugs. The residual period of this pesticide is long, and it is safe for crops when used correctly.
2. Low Toxicity: It is low in toxicity to humans and warm-blooded animals; even in the case of accidental ingestion or contact, it can be rapidly metabolized in the body.
3. Environmental Stability: Cypermethrin is not easily degraded by light and air.
4. Repellent Properties: Cypermethrin is a low-toxicity, powerful repellent that is not absorbed or transmitted within plant tissues. It is widely used for the control of agricultural pests, public health pests, livestock pests, and stored grain pests.
5. Activating Effect: Cypermethrin has a stronger activating effect than other insecticides, prompting pests hidden in burrows to come out and contact the insecticide. However, due to years of continuous use and the issue of cross-resistance with organophosphates and carbamate insecticides, pests have developed strong resistance to this type of pesticide, significantly reducing its effectiveness.
Cypermethrin has a wide range of applications, especially for controlling pests in fruits (grapes), vegetables (potatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes), grains (corn, soybeans), cotton, coffee, ornamental plants, and trees. It targets pests from the order Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, and others.
It is also used to control mosquitoes, cockroaches, houseflies, and other public health pests.
Additionally, it can serve as an external insecticide for animals, controlling beetles, aphids, and Lepidoptera pests on field crops like cotton, fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants.
Cypermethrin is effective against larvae of the order Lepidoptera and shows good efficacy against pests from the orders Diptera and Hemiptera. However, it is ineffective against mites and is suitable for crops such as cotton, fruit trees, tea trees, soybeans, and sugar beets.
