Oxadiargyl is a protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitor. It works through contact absorption by young shoots or seedlings of sensitive weeds. In rice fields, farmers apply oxadiargyl to water after it settles. The chemical gradually adsorbs to surface soil particles. It forms a stable closed layer of drug film. When weed shoots later grow through this film, they contact the agent. This contact causes cell membrane rupture and chlorophyll decomposition in light. It also damages the meristematic tissues in growing points. As a result, the affected weed shoots wither and die. Seedlings that have already emerged but are below the water's surface absorb enough agent before it settles. This leads to rapid necrosis and decay. Oxadiargyl has low mobility in the soil, making it less likely to reach weed roots.
Rice Fields
Potato Fields
Oxadiargyl has high safety for potatoes. Applying 80% Oxadiargyl WG pre-emergence after sowing effectively controls common annual weeds in potato fields, with a recommended dosage of 120-180g/hm².
Corn Fields
The recommended dosage of 80% Oxadiargyl wettable powder for corn is 8 to 12 grams per acre. It is best to apply it in combination with acetochlor for soil closure, achieving over 90% efficacy against barnyard grass, pigweed, amaranth, and duck salad. It is safe for corn with no signs of phytotoxicity.
Soybean Fields
Field trials show that applying Oxadiargyl 80% wettable powder once before soybean emergence effectively controls spring weeds such as barnyard grass, pigweed, knotweed, amaranth, foxtail grass, shepherd's purse, and spiny sowthistle. This herbicide can be used alone or in combination with acetochlor. When used alone, the application rate is 4.8 to 6.4 grams a.i. per acre (with efficacy over 80%); when mixed, the application rate for 80% Oxadiargyl wettable powder is 4.8 grams a.i. per acre, and for acetochlor 900 g/L emulsifiable concentrate, it is 45 grams a.i. per acre (with efficacy over 90%).
